Kathleen Hardwick KD

My name is Kathy Hardwick. I grew up in a military family, and then married my high school sweetheart right after I graduated from Andress High School here in El Paso.  He enlisted in the Army just before we were married.  I have had the wonderful opportunity of experiencing many cultures as we traveled from station to station.  We retired from the military after 20 years and settled here in El Paso.

We raised two amazing children, a daughter and a son, and we are celebrating 40 years together this year.
I attended college off and on, as time and finances permitted, working steadily towards an education degree.  Our children are both married to wonderful spouses, and have given us three beautiful granddaughters and two handsome grandsons!  I consider myself truly blessed!

I was a teacher's aide for seven years during my children's elementary years, and a Kindergarten teacher for eleven years at a private Christian school.
I also volunteered in the school systems that my children attended.  I have been with EPISD since 2009, serving first at Polk Elementary, and then transferred to Lundy as one of the very first Kindergarten teachers when the school opened in 2010.

I am a UTEP Graduate with a Bachelor's Degree
in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Early Childhood through 4th Grade.

Although Kindergarten is an exciting adventure for most children, it can be a bit overwhelming as well.  Many parents ask what they can do to help their child prepare for Kindergarten. The main thing I can suggest to you is to spend a few quality minutes every day, talking to your child, reading with your child, playing with your child and just letting your child know how much you value him/her.  Share positive experiences and memories that you have from your school days.  Take a family picture and attach it to the inside lid of your child's school box so he/she can see you during the day.  Come and have lunch with your child, or come to help out in the class when we need extra hands.  You are a very important part of the picture in your child's education.  We will work together as a team to help your child to reach his/her full potential this year.  Regular attendance is crucial for student success; please make sure your child is at school every day and on time.

Please feel free to contact me by email if you have any questions or concerns:  kjhardwi@episd.org, or you can call to set up an appointment with me through the office, 774-7750.  My meeting time is from 2:00-2:30.  I am also available early in the morning or after school.  It is going to be a fantastic year as we learn and grow together!
